《外貿英語》是21世紀普通高等院校系列規劃教材之一。該教材是在中國加入wto后國際商貿往來對各種商務人才需求日益增多的背景下，組織了四家高校的教師編寫隊伍精心編寫的。該教材適合國際商務、國際貿易、國際金融、企業管理等專業學生和其他經濟管理專業的高年級本科生、研究生，也適合英語專業高年級本科生。該教材還可以作為外貿進出口從業人員的自修教材和指導資料。
本教材重視教材的科學性和先進性；注重教材的基礎性、實踐性，力爭適度的基礎知識與理論體系覆蓋，同時強化實際訓練。因此，本教材做到了“教師易教”學生樂學，技能實用”。該教材旨在培養學生的專業知識的同時提高其外語能力，以增強其今后從事經貿工作尤其是從事對外貿易工作的業務水平和競爭力。
編寫背景：
當今世界科學技術日新月異，知識經濟已見端倪，國力競爭日趨激烈。針對這一知識化、信息化、全球化的時代特征，世界各國正在醞釀進行一場深刻的教育改革，以培養與時代要求相適應的高素質的、富有創造性的專業人才。隨著我國市場經濟的逐步完善和對外開放的不斷擴大，我國經濟將完全融入世界經濟體系之中。為國際經濟貿易和經濟管理專業的學生量身定制的雙語教材《外貿英語》在此背景下應運而生。
